PERIOD 1 : MATH SUPPORT 6 (Mr. Tracy) PERIOD 2 : STUDY SKILLS 8 PERIOD 3 : MATH SUPPORT 7 (Mr. Miller) PERIOD 5 : MATH SUPPORT 6 (Mr. Tracy) PERIOD 6 : MATH 8 In Study Skills, I motivate students to use executive functioning skills to organize and complete their school work from other classes. I coach them in self-advocacy, self-management, and the navigation of Google Classroom, Powerschool, and agendas to determine what work must be completed, turned in, and/or corrected. I group students by eighth grade teacher to provide direct instruction, guided practice, helpful tools, and feedback, so that they may complete their independent work. Often I will employ GLAD strategies and added accommodations to help them access the curriculum. We start the day with community building exercises.
GRADES: Grades are based on effort and production, as I do not provide new curriculum or homework. The first half of RSP Math will concentrate on the review of middle school math concepts that they need to complete the linear equations that dominate eighth-grade standards, such as algebra, rounding, exponents, reciprocals, graphing, and basic geometry.
The second half is dedicated to the eighth-grade standards, which include linear equations, irrational numbers, three-dimensional volume, proportions, scientific notation, the Pythagorean Theorem, functions, radicals, and advanced graphing (reflections, rotations). GRADES: Every student has the opportunity to FIX their errors and resubmit the assignment and test (within the quarter). Therefore, an "A" is attainable for each and every student just by showing the effort to complete, fix, and submit the work regardless of their perceived ability. HOMEWORK is not assigned, though students may need time outside of class to correct assignments, redo tests, or turn in missing or incomplete assignments for a better grade. |
